WORLDSBK GRID GETS IRONED OUT T he willingness of Dorna to make changes to the rules and regulations of the WorldSBK class continues to swell with every passing season. The latest initiatives are headlined by a change in the grid positions for the second race of a weekend. Qualifying and superpole con- tinue like before, initially. So for race one it is business as usual, with Superpole 1 and Superpole 2 allocating grid spots to all. After race one on Saturday the grid order for race two on Sunday will be—for the first nine riders home in race one only—al- tered in the following way. The podium top-three will be relegated to seventh, eighth and ninth on the grid for race two. In addition, the race winner will be ninth (not seventh), second place in the race will be eighth and third will be seventh (not ninth, like he would have been had they all just moved back a couple of rows). So the Saturday winner becomes the biggest loser, as he will start race two from ninth. The fourth-, fifth- and sixth- placed riders in race one will become the first three on the grid for Sunday's race. So fourth on Saturday will get you pole position Sunday, and so on.
