VANGUARD ROADSTER TO
DEBUT AT NEW YORK IMS
I
f you're heading to the New
York IMS on December 9-11,
you'll be getting an eyeful of the
brutish, chrome badass that is
the Vanguard Roadster proto-
type, as the company debuts
its first-ever model in its home
show.
Vanguard Motorcycles is
based out of Brooklyn Navy
Yard in New York City, and this
Roadster is the first of its kind
from the fresh startup, headed
by former Confederate designer
Edward Jacobs and his busi-
ness partner Francois-Xavier
Terny.
The Roadster features a
frameless structural engine,
in this case a 117c.i (1917cc)
S&S X-Wedge V-twin, unitized
crankcase, integrated exhaust
and a tablet-size digital dash-
board with rear-view camera that
replaces the mirrors. There's
also a carbon fiber gas tank and
that incredible looking, solid
disc rear wheel, that has power
delivered to it via a driveshaft.
Vanguard has outsourced many
of the parts, with Ohlins tak-
ing care of the suspenders and
Brembo supplying the brakes.
The Roadster is the first of
three motorcycles built on a
common powertrain platform
that will cover all riding posi-
tions: Roadster, Cruiser and
Racer.
The Roadster will be start-
ing at $29,995, so it's certainly
priced at the premium end of
the market, but you'll be getting
something pretty unique for your
moolah! CN
