CN III VOICES L E T T E R S T O T H E E D I T O R "I'd look silly on it, but for the hipster, small frame guy or gal, what a fun ride." Archives: Joe Parkhurst Parkhurst was a first-class guy, a true motorcycle enthusiast. I'll never forget him. Jim Bensberg Looking Back (Looking Back, Issue 46) "Our top story 40 years ago was that an audit found that the Califor- nia Parks & Recreation Depart- ment had been mismanaging the Off-Highway Vehicle Fund (AKA "Green Sticker" fund)…" Wow. Some things never change. A follow up story on how Jerry "Moonbeam" Brown (once again) the Governor has been screwing California off-roaders would be appropri- ate. Not to mention how much money and jobs have been lost because of the elimination or restriction of public access to the vast deserts and wild lands. And let's add in the specific regulations the state has put on top of the Federal regulations to damage the motorcycle (and aftermarket) sales business in California. Did you ever wonder why motorcycle sales and ridership are stagnant? Marc Lemieux Honda Rebel My type of bike! Just saw it today at the IMS Motorcycle Show in Long Beach. Sat on it, it felt just perfect. I used to own a Rebel 250 but my desire for more power made me trade it in. I now own a Versys 650, which I wouldn't mind swapping for this cool Rebel. Jeff Pero I was wondering if we'd ever see that moniker return to Honda. I looked at the original Rebel 250 when I was able to ride again, since the 450 model had been discontinued. Very uncomfortable ergos for me, mainly because the pegs were too far out front and put too much weight on my rear end. I ended up with a more standard-riding-position KZ250 that fit me better. These new ones, styling preferences being very per- sonal, have lighter weight and a more standard location for the pegs, which are both good things—and more than three inches of rear suspension travel! Yes, the stock shocks will leave something to be desired regarding damping/ springing (they always do), but the travel was not sacrificed for the sake of a lower seat. They should have a good amount of lean angle, also. Subjectivity aside, the simple looks will work for these types of bikes and the market for them. No complaints here, I just wish the International Mo- torcycle Show had kept coming to Seattle, like it has been for decades. Winter is not the same around here without it. I used to look forward to it every year because I got to work there for some of the vendors. John A. Stockman What a sweet little ride. At 6'1" and 220 pounds, I'd look silly on it, but for the hipster, small frame guy or gal, what a fun ride. Gerald Hicks Yuck, what in the hell is Honda thinking? Maybe they are try- ing to unload some old failing DN-01 and Sabre parts that are stacked up like cords of wood! Mary Hawkins Of all the bikes Honda has put DCT automatic transmissions on, why not these two? My wife would love that 500, but she doesn't want a clutch.
