OFF ROAD 2016 AMA ENDUROCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 8 / NOVEMBER 20, 2016 CITIZENS BUSINESS BANK ARENA / ONTARIO, CALIFORNIA P70 landed on an upright log that shot me off the track. I didn't crash but it was intense. Af- ter that it was smooth sailing. The key tonight was being smooth in the matrix. I got back into the United States after racing the Baja 1000 at about midnight and I've ridden more than 1200 miles in the last week or so, so I'm pretty tired." "I couldn't be happier to win the Junior Champion- ship for the third year in a row and to finish third in the points for the year," Tremaine said. "It was re- ally hard-fought and racing with Mike Brown for the third position in the cham- pionship, man, I don't even know what to say. But I moved into third tonight by one point and I couldn't be happier." Gerston, Trystan Hart and Eric Rhoten completed the 13-rider field. CN 1. Cody Webb (KTM) 2. Colton Haaker (Hus) 3. Cory Graffunder (KTM) 4. Ty Cullins (Bet) 5. Ty Tremaine (KTM) 6. Noah Kepple(KTM) 7. Geoff Aaron (GG) 8. Kyle Redmond (Bet) 9. Nick Thompson (KTM) 10. Mike Brown (Hus) 11. Max Gerston (Bet) 12. Trystan Hart (Hus) 13. Eric Rhoten (Yam) EnduroCross includes a Junior Cham- pionship to recognize riders aged 21 and under. It is a championship within a championship and 21-year-old Ty Tremaine won the title for the third straight season with a very strong third overall, as well. Noah Kepple, anoth- er 20-year-old, was second in the Ju- nior championship and eighth overall. Nineteen-year old Trystan Hart was third Junior and ninth overall. Morgan Tanke rode her Beta to the Ontario Women's main event win over Canada's Shelby Turner, but it was not enough to take over the champion- ship. Turner dominated the season with six wins and wrapped up the champi- onship with 194 points to Tanke's 176. Rachel Gutish held on for third in the Women's Championship despite sitting out the final round with a knee injury. Tarah Gieger rounded out the podium for the Ontario final on her Honda. For the EnduroCross support classes (Amateur, Vet and TrialsCross), the On- tario event is the AMA Grand Champi- onship with number-one plates on the line. Dustin McCarthy took an exciting win in the Amateur class on his Yamaha just ahead of Tyler Kinkade on a KTM and Spenser Wilton on a Honda. In the Vet class, Stephen Foord had a good battle with Kurt Nicoll to earn another championship. Foord was rid- ing a Beta and Nicoll was riding an Alta Electric bike. Jason Gitchel rounded out the podium on his KTM. In the Tri- alsCross class, Kyle Larson and Shad Petersen took first and second, re- spectively, on their Betas. Brian Mar- tinson rounded out the podium on his GasGas. Husqvarna's Mike Brown announced during the opening ceremonies that this would likely be his last top-level professional race. The 2000 AMA Mo- tocross 125 Champion transitioned to off-road racing several years ago and earned a WORCS Championship and several EnduroCross wins in addition to some top ISDE finishes to extend his career well into his 40's. He is con- sidering some options that will keep him involved in the sport but did not completely rule out continuing racing if he found the right opportunity. Cory Graffunder, a longtime top En- duroCross racer, has branched out to racing some SCORE Baja events the last two seasons, and he rode the first 200 plus miles with his SRT-backed team on Friday and then headed back to California to compete at the Ontario final, where he had a season-best third. Noah Kepple kicked off the evening by playing the National Anthem to open the show on his electric guitar. He followed that up with his first-ever heat-race win over Mike Brown and Geoff Aaron and followed that up with a sixth-place finish in the main to make for a memorable evening. Colton Haaker will head back to Eu- rope to defend his FIM SuperEnduro Championship. The series will kick off on December 10 in Poland. Haaker wrapped up the 2016 title over Cody Webb with a dramatic last-lap pass. Webb will not compete in the Super- Enduro Championship this season, so KTM's Jonny Walker is expected to be Haaker's primary challenger. The Ontario EnduroCross final is scheduled to air on the CBS Sports Network on Sunday, December 4. For CBS Sports Network information, visit www.cbssportsnetwork.com Briefly...
