Honda adds a different twist to the
ADV category with its all-new X-ADV.
2017 HONDA
X-ADV
H
onda has created a new cat-
egory of motorcycles—adven-
ture scooters. Honda recently
took the covers off its all-new X-ADV.
Honda does not actually use the
word scooter at all in describing the
X-ADV, nor does it put the X-ADV
under its scooter category; instead,
it gets its own category: X-ADV.
Honda says that the X-ADV mixes
SUV style and off-road appeal with
a tough chassis, long-travel suspen-
sion, four-piston radial-mount brakes
and strong performance from its
745cc twin-cylinder engine driving
through Dual Clutch Transmission
(DCT). Honda claims peak power is
40.3kW @ 6250 rpm with maximum
torque of 68Nm @ 4750 rpm.
The engine is housed in a tubular
steel frame with a 62.5-inch wheel-
base. Wheel travel is six inches up
front and 5.9 inches in the rear. Seat
height is 32.3 inches, and claimed
wet weight is 524 pounds. The 41mm
cartridge-type fork offers spring pre-
load and rebound adjustability; the
rear, just spring preload. The X-ADV
rolls on 15-inch (rear) and 17-inch
(front) spoked wheels. The bike also
features an adjustable windscreen,
LED lighting, twin headlights and a
large CRF450 Rally-style instrument
display. Hand guards are fitted to
protect the rider's hands from the
elements, as does a skid plate that
protects the X-ADV's underbelly.
Fuel capacity is three gallons, and
Honda claims that will get you ap-
proximately 185 miles.
Honda has yet announced pricing
or availability. CN
