BERCY/LILLE SUPERCROSS:
MUSQUIN MAKES GOOD
R
ed Bull KTM's Marvin
Musquin is having exactly
the kind of off-season that he
wants. He started it all off as a
member of the winning team
at the Riders' Cup in Germany,
then followed that up with a solid
podium at the Monster Energy
Cup. After that, he dominated
the Red Bull Straight Rhythm
a week later. Then he headed
home to France to take on the
Paris-Lille SX, November 12-13.
Musquin dominated Super
Pole both days of the event,
and then raced away from JGR/
Suzuki's Justin Barcia, while
Barcia fought off the advances
of GEICO Honda-backed
Malcolm Stewart and GEICO
Honda team's Christian Craig,
among others.
On night one, Musquin got
the holeshot and began quickly
pulling away, while Barcia had
to work his way by Suzuki-
backed Frenchman Thomas
Ramette. By the time Barcia
got up to second, Musquin was
gone.
Ramette began to fade a bit
as Stewart worked his way into
third, and Craig came through
the pack from outside the top
10 to finish fifth, just behind
Ramette's Suzuki teammate Ce-
dric Soubeyras. Ramette ended
up sixth.
On night two, Musquin again
started up front and took off.
This time, Craig chased him
early while Stewart and Barcia
fought their way by and into
second and third, respectively.
Stewart looked to have second
in the bag until he snagged his
rear-brake pedal on an obstacle
and bent it. He was stopped
momentarily but got back going
again in sixth.
Barcia inherited second,
where he finished just in front
of Craig, Soubeyras, Honda's
Valentin Teillet, and Stewart.
Now with two off-season wins
in a row, Musquin is building
some momentum as the clock
ticks down to Anaheim 1 in early
2017.
