IN THE WIND P40 AUS-X OPEN: AUSSIE GO HOME (AND WIN) T he second annual Aus-X Open took place in Sydney's Qudos Bank Arena, November 12-13, and for the second year in a row, Yamaha's Chad Reed and Cooper Webb, along with retired legend Ryan Villopoto, all made the trip. With Webb mov- ing up to the 450cc class full-time from here on out, it was easy to assume that he'd have something for his elder teammate Reed. But he didn't. Reed was fastest in qualifying and dominated both main events on the weekend. On night one, Reed beat Honda's Justin Brayton to the line, followed by Jay Mar- mont. Webb came from way behind after a poor start to finish fourth in front of Kade Mosig and Villopoto. Gavin Faith won the SX2 class in front of Jackson Richardson and Hayden Melross. On night two, Reed again got out and ran, but this time Webb was able to latch onto him early. Webb followed his teammate for the entire main event to finish second, just in front of Brayton, Villopoto and Dean Ferris. Night two's SX2 race went much like night one's, with Faith beating Richardson to the line, this time in front of Kyle Web- ster. Justin Brayton is the new Australian Supercross Cham- pion, and he'll return to the USA to continue to compete on Hondas for the MotoConcepts team, while Jackson Richardson landed the SX2 title.
