on lap five, and forged away to
a commanding lead. By lap 20
of the 30-lap race, it was bet-
ter than 5.4 seconds, as he left
a breathtaking four-bike battle
for second almost out of sight
behind.
He seemed set for a third
pole-to-checkers victory of the
season, a good way to say good-
bye to Yamaha after nine years
