VOL. 53 ISSUE 45 NOVEMBER 15, 2016 P25 UPDATES FOR BMW'S 2017 F 800 R AND F 800 GT B MW's midsize roadsters in the F 800 R and F 800 GT will get minor updates for 2017, including a new exhaust muffler and Ride-by- Wire throttle. These two bikes have tradition- ally flown under the radar as the perennial workhorses for BMW in the midsize sector, so the company hasn't gone to extreme lengths to revamp them—so no, you won't get carbon fiber wheels like on the HP4 Race! There are new colors for the F 800 R in the Racing Red non-metallic, Blackstorm metallic, BMW Mo- torsport (Lightwhite non-metallic/Lupine Blue metallic/Racing Red non-metallic), while the F 800 GT will get new Gravity Blue metallic matte, Lightwhite non-metallic, Blackstorm metallic color options. CN BMW's F 800 R and F 800 GT get minor updates for 2017. HONDA'S REAL WORLD CBR1000RR T his is the third and final iteration of the 2017 CBR1000RR range, matching the higher spec CBR1000RR SP and SP2 that were released at the Intermot Show in Cologne, Germany, last month. This particular CBR, according to Honda, is more focused on the road rider and not the racer, but it still comes with less weight, more power and the fitment of the six-axis Bosch Inertial Mea- surement Unit. The IMU's arrival coincides with the full house of electronics for the base model CBR that includes ABS, traction control (Honda's Select- able Torque Control system—the same as the Honda RC213V-S with nine different levels), Rear Lift Control (RLC), Wheelie Control, Selectable Engine Brake (SEB) and the Riding Mode Select System (RMSS) modes. Honda is claiming 189 horsepower (at the crank) for the new CBR, measured at 13,000 rpm after a complete redesign of the bike's internals including new cams, cam timing, pistons and magnesium covers. As for the chassis, Honda is gracing the CBR with the latest generation of the 43mm Showa Big Piston Fork and Balance Free Rear Shock, the swingarm is said to be stiffer and the frame lighter. Honda claims the new CBR will weigh 432 pounds wet, ready to ride—a substantial weight saving over the 2008-2016 machine. CN No desire to go to the track? Then this new CBR1000RR is for you.
