IN THE WIND P44 TURNER, THORNLEY SCORE CHAMPIONSHIPS IN VEGAS J ay Turner won his first NHRA Top Fuel Harley National Championship with a win at the Harley-Davidson Drag Race Series final at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Novem- ber 5-6. Turner wrapped up the cham- pionship after qualifying second in the field. He went on to win the event over number-one qualifier and defending event champion Rickey House when House crossed the centerline in the Final. Turner ran 6.369 seconds at 223.02 mph for the win. "We built a new bike for this year and won our first race with it," said Turner. "We had problems in the middle of the year but we finished like we wanted to." It was Turner's fourth HD- DRS win of the season. Janette Thornley wrapped up her second-straight NHRA Pro Fuel National Champion- ship after qualifying on the pole with a run of 7.505 seconds at 169.55 mph. "Its quite an honor," said Thornley. "People race their whole careers and never win a championship. To win two in a row is humbling." Thornley lost in round two to Bill Bentz, who lost to Quinn Olson in the final.
