50 Years Ago November 10, 1966
We highlighted the girls that came out and competed at the Dana Point Tri-
als event, and a photo of some of them was pictured on the cover 50 years
ago, and so was the Death Valley Tour Queen. Skip Van Leeuwen was also
pictured on the cover after taking the Cal State Championship at Ascot TT… We
were excited that 28-year-old Torsten Hallman, the multi-time MX World champ
from Sweden, had arrived in the U.S. to compete in several California cross-
country events… This week's Meet The Racers
was flat track racer Marty MacDonald.
40 Years Ago November 9, 1975
To attract more road racers, the Western/Eastern Roadracing Association
introduced "Bracket Racing," where racers could show up with any kind of
motorcycle, and based on their practice lap times, would be pitted against other
racers with similar lap times on whatever bikes. Can you say, sandbagging?...
We reported that Texas Trans-AMA MX winner Sylvain Geboers had been
DQ'ed for an illegal axle in his Maico, which had earlier passed an AMA tech
inspection. Geboers filed an appeal… We visited Honda's Suzuka Circuit on
Honda's R&D Open House tour.
20 Years Ago November 6, 1996
The final round of the World Superbike Championship was our top story 20
years ago, and Troy Corser was pictured on the cover for wrapping up the
championship, a first for an Australian… This issue also featured our five-bike
1997 125c Motocross Shootout won again by the Yamaha YZ125… We
showed you some of the hot new bikes from Honda, including the VTR1000F,
aka Super Hawk 996… We featured a profile on speedway racers Billy Hamill
and Greg Hancock… Rodney Smith clinched the AMA Hare Scrambles
Championship in Missouri.

30 Years Ago November 12, 1986
A classic photo of Terry Cunningham, taken by Henny Ray Abrams at the
Delaware National Enduro, was featured on the cover 30 years ago. The factory
Husqvarna rider won the event and the 1986 AMA National Enduro Champion-
ship… Ken Vreeke had the AFM Formula USA Champion all but wrapped up,
but a crash that left him with a broken arm at the penultimate round at Willow
Springs cost him the title, which ended up going
to Earl Roloff… Jojo Keller won the New Eng-
land Arenacross in Worcester, Massachusetts.
