IN THE WIND P42 LARS LARSSON HONORED WITH EDISON DYE MOTOCROSS LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD O ne of the highlights of the weekend at the Dubya World Vet Motocross Championship was the presentation of the Edison Dye Motocross Lifetime Achievement Award to motocross legend Lars Larsson. The AMA Motocross Hall of Famer is regarded as a founder of modern day moto- cross, and one of the first people to introduce the Husqvarna brand to the United States. At 75 years young, Larsson is still racing today. In fact, the ceremony was held off until after the second moto of the 70+ class at the World Vet Championship (which had 16 entries!) so that Lars could finish his racing for the day before accepting his award. There was an unfortunate incident just be- fore the presentation, or as emcee Tom White described it, a "Forrest Gump 'Shit Happens' moment," where Lars' trophy was accidentally knocked over. The beautiful glass award shattered into a thousand pieces only moments before Lars was to receive it. However, the affable Swede made the best of the situation, commenting that it actually solved a problem for him, since he intended to share the trophy with everyone who helped him and Torsten Hallman establish Torsten Hallman Original Racewear (THOR). White later announced they plan to replace the trophy. Larsson was humbled by the crowd turnout, with standing room only to witness the presen- tation, which included a video put together by Motocross Action (below). He also received a commemorative plaque, which will become part of the Glen Helen Raceway Walk Of Fame. "We couldn't be more proud to put together this new partner- ship with Alpinestars," Craig Shoemaker, WPS President and CEO, said.
