VOL. 53 ISSUE 42 OCTOBER 25, 2016 P51 T he BMW S 1000 XR will gain five more horsepower for 2016 - the same as the S 1000 R – as well as Euro 4 compli- ance. Now sitting at 165 horsepower, the S 1000 XR also gets BMW's Optimized Vibration-Free handlebars (hallelujah!), a solution achieved by the use of softer insulating elements on the bars to filter out the high resonances that have driven S 1000 XR owners nuts over the past two years. BMW has also increased the carrying capacity from 956 pounds to 978 pounds, in case you want to take the kitchen sink with you on your next round-the-world mis- sion. Rounding off the list of changes is the new Ocean Blue Metallic Matte color scheme (pictured here). As before, S 1000 XR owners will still be able to purchase the Touring Package with Dynamic ESA, heated grips, case holder, preparation for the navigation unit including the multi-controller, a center stand and luggage bridge. The Dynamic Package is also available, and includes Riding Modes Pro (Dynamic Traction Control DTC, ABS Pro, riding modes "Dynamic" and "Dynamic Pro"), Shift Assistant Pro, cruise control, LED turn indicators.
