HILL, ELECTRIC BIKE IMPRESSIVE AT RED BULL STRAIGHT RHYTHM A lthough Josh Hill been re- tired from racing for a couple of years, and has been working an office job at Monster Energy, the former supercross racer still puts out some pretty amazing riding videos on his social media accounts on the regular, and he's been helping Alta Motors develop their electric motocross bikes, as well. Hill showed up at the Red Bull Straight Rhythm with Alta to compete in the Lites class on an electric bike, and it went pretty well. The motorcycle he rode features a ride-by-wire throttle, and no clutch lever or shifter. Hill qualified fifth in the eight-rider Lites field, which meant in the first round he'd have to go up against fourth-place qualifier Kyle Cunningham. Hill managed to defeat Cunningham. Cunningham came back to edge Hill out in the second race, but Hill persevered in the third race to move on to the semifinals, where he lost in straight races to number-one qualifier Mitch Oldenberg. In the third-place race, Hill faced off against Oldenberg's TLD/Red Bull KTM teammate Jordon Smith, and it seemed as if his electric machine lost power, so he was unable to stay close to Smith. There's still work to do on the prototype Alta Motors machine, but it has proven competitive when it's working right. Steve Cox IN THE WIND P30 PHOTOGRAPHY BY STEVE COX Josh Hill won a couple of races on an Alta Motors electric- powered motorcycle at the Red Bull Straight Rhythm.
