here has not yet been a repeat winner
of the Monster Energy Cup. This isn't
to say that no one has won it twice in a
row; no one has won it twice at all. If you're
a believer in patterns like this, maybe de-
fending champ Ken Roczen was actually an
underdog at this year's event.
The defending champ made his Team
Honda debut Saturday night at Sam Boyd
Stadium, and for nearly the entire event, he
looked like he was in total control.
Roczen qualified first, just in front of Red
Bull KTM's Marvin Musquin and Monster
Energy Kawasaki's Eli Tomac (with Musquin's
teammate Ryan Dungey about a second
behind Tomac).
