VOL. 53 ISSUE 41 OCTOBER 18, 2016 P47
1000 RR//
T
he BMW S 1000 RR has
undergone some subtle
changes for the 2017
model year. You'll still get the
riotous 199 horsepower 83 lb-ft
motor, but it's now Euro4 compli-
ant, which keeps it safe from tree
huggers.
The electronics have received a
boost with Race ABS and Dynam-
ic Traction Control as standard in
partnership with the Rain, Sport
and Race engine modes. But if
you want to go further, there's the
optional Riding Modes Pro feature
that gives you Slick and User (cus-
tom) maps, Launch Control, a Pit
Lane speed limiter and ABS Pro—a
similar system to Bosch's corner-
ing ABS in that it's now lean-angle-
sensitive to stop front-end wash-
outs when braking.
The premier sportbike in BMW's
lineup now comes as a single-seat
model as standard, with pas-
senger footpegs available as an
accessory at no extra charge.
The styling—long a polarizing
subject with RR fans—remains the
same but there are new colors
in the Racing Red non-metallic/
Lightwhite non-metallic and BMW
Motorsport (Lupine Blue metallic/
Lightwhite nonmetallic/Racing
Red non-metallic), and the new
Granite Grey metallic/Blackstorm
metallic color scheme. And the
Design Option Wheels with red
rim lines now included as stan-
dard as part of the color con-
cepts Racing Red non-metallic/
Lightwhite non-metallic and BMW
Motorsport. CN
