"I wish I had radio communica- tion with Marvin for him to pull over," Dungey laughed. Instead, it was Tomac who took the overall with seven points over Dungey's eight and Musquin's nine. "Going into that first turn [in the final main event] there was some bumping and some bar-banging in there, and at that point, I was already pretty buried," Tomac said. "Go- ing into that rhythm section, I think it was Reed down in there, and I was just think- ing about where Dungey and Marvin were at that point. I was so buried. Once I saw where Dungey and Marvin were, I knew I had work to do, and those last two laps were intense, but it worked out, and I'm happy." CN Red Bull KTM's Ryan Dungey missed Press Day at the Monster Energy Cup because he got a chance to go up in a modified F-15E Strike Eagle fighter aircraft. Dungey got to sit in the back, and was even given the controls on a couple of occasions. Dungey said that at one point, he was doing a loop with the controls in his hands, and the pi- lot told him to go to full burn, so he did, and as the plane came around, Dungey was still in full afterburner as he headed toward the ground, so the pilot had to quickly take the controls back. "We pulled so many Gs right there that I started to black out a little bit," Dungey said. "It was amazing." Dungey said it was incredibly taxing. "I tell you, I could've gotten out of the airplane, fell right on the tarmack, and took a nap! I was sweating. He took me to the limit. I never knew it could be so demanding. I have a whole new respect for those guys. It was prob- ably not the best thing to do before a race, but it was a cool opportunity." This year's race featured an amazing downhill start that was located on the west side of the stadium. The to- tal length of the start run was 470 feet with a 33-degree decline, measuring 165 feet. From the top of the stadium, riders immediately launched straight down the hill, the first few feet on a metal grate. The Monster Energy Cup was sched- uled to include a trio of freestyle mo- tocross events in the parking lot, but with the high winds in the area all weekend, the schedule had to be modified. The Half-Pipe event went off at 9 a.m., with Jarryd McNeil tak- ing the win, and then as the day went on, Tom Parsons took yet another win Briefly...
