He was right behind the Husky rider as they entered lap five of the six-lap race. Bollinger got around DeLong and was now trailing leader Michael by a little over two minutes heading into final lap, which was too much of a deficit to make up in just one lap. So Bollinger took it easy the last lap, going just fast enough to stay ahead of DeLong, knowing a second-place finish would clinch the XC2 title. He ended up taking the checkered flag 2:19 behind Michael, and was two seconds clear of third-place DeLong. "I knew today was going to be tough since the track was got off to a fast start, nabbing the $100 Hot Cams Holeshot Award, but his lead was short- lived. His teammate, Layne Michael, was flying and motored past DeLong just a few miles into the race. Points leader Bollinger was playing it safe and cruising in the middle of the pack. Michael had a one-minute- plus lead after the first lap; DeLong was second, followed by Tegan Temple and Michael Witkowski. Bollinger had worked his way up to fifth. Michael continued to stretch out his lead a bit over DeLong as the race progressed. Bollinger, meanwhile, con- tinued to gain ground. He had to a sudden halt, the result of a damaged radiator. Strang's misfortune was Ricky Russell's fortune, as the Suzuki rider moved up a notch, taking the checkered flag third over two minutes behind Duvall. Ashburn ended up fourth right behind Duvall, while Grant Baylor took fifth, crossing the finish line more than two minutes behind Ashburn. JCR Honda's Chris Bach was sixth in XC1, followed by Cory Buttrick, Russell Bobbitt and Andrew DeLong.
