70,000 fans, it was another race where
tire choice proved crucial, and it differed
from one rider to the next.
Marquez chose hard front and rear, and
it worked.
Lorenzo changed on the grid from the medium rear
to the hard, going against his dislike of the tire during
practice, but instead following his instinct after a crash
on the hard in morning warmup. "Sometimes a posi-
tive thing can come from a negative thing," he said.
The crash meant he had to try both bikes, and "I felt
finally okay with the hard tire, and when I tried the soft
the bike was moving." The benefit came later in the
race, when he was in a big battle with Movistar Yamaha
teammate/deadly rival Rossi.
Valentino was on the same tire combination, and
Marquez
became the first
repeat winner in
nine races.
