VOL. 53 ISSUE 38 SEPTEMBER 27, 2016 P71 he reversed a last-corner attack by teammate Franco Morbidelli to claim second, and his first podium in Moto2. Marquez led into the first corner, but Lowes blasted past before the lap was half done, and stretched away without pause to win by better than three seconds. Baldassari finished lap one third, but Thomas Luthi (Ga- rage Plus Kalex) was charging through from the back of a tight pursuit pack and was third by lap three. All the while Zarco was getting shuffled backward, while Rins—10th on lap one—was edg- ing forward, and already ahead Moto2 The championship got another injection of tension at Aragon, as Briton Sam Lowes regained a lot of lost ground with a dominant win, his second of the season, while defending champion Jo- hann Zarco lost another crucial couple of points to the strength- ening challenge from Alex Rins. While Lowes (Federal Oils Kalex) was simply unbeatable all weekend, the other pair was left behind in the middle of a top-10 battle. Rins (Paginas Amarillas Kalex) was battling illness and a poor 13th-place qualifying posi- tion and Zarco (Ajo Kalex) had another off-form weekend. Rins came out on top, push- ing through early on then nar- rowly clinging on to head the quartet disputing sixth. Zarco had started from row two, but dropped back as far as 10th, only moving forward gradually as he (as usual) gained strength on used tires, finishing eighth, just four-tenths behind Rins, with Misano winner Lorenzo Baldas- sari (Forward Kalex) sandwiched between them. They go to the flyaways with Zarco just one point clear, hav- ing been 34 ahead just four races ago. There was joy also for Alex Marquez (EG-VDS Kalex), when Alex Marquez was thrilled to get on the Moto2 podium for the first time.
