Rea (KRT) not being World
Superbike Champion in
2016 is still there after round 10
(of 13) but his only two possible
rivals—Tom Sykes (KRT) and
Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing
Ducati WorldSBK)—each gained
and then lost the chance to
make up serious ground on him.
By the end of the weekend at
least.
Davies won in remarkably
dominant fashion at the first
WorldSBK race at this venue
in nearly 10 years. With Sykes
second and Rea a faller, due to
a false neutral problem enter-
ing a corner, Davies and Sykes
each moved up, the number-66
Kawasaki man (Sykes) to within
26 points of his great rival.
But race two saw their hopes
dashed, with Sykes crashing on
lap one in wet conditions and
Davies fighting for sixth place.
