BYRNE NAILS A DOUBLE AT DONINGTON PARK
S
hane Byrne (Be Wiser
Ducati) has done his British
Superbike Championship aspira-
tions the world of good by taking
two race wins at Donington
Park, September 17-18, as chief
title rival Leon Haslam crashed
out of race two.
Byrne took race one ahead
of Haslam (Quattro Plant Kawa-
saki) and Honda Racing's Jason
O'Halloran, and the second win
from Honda Racing's Dan Lin-
foot and Tyco BMW's Christian
Iddon.
Haslam's race-two crash
means the former World Super-
bike rider is 33 points behind
four-time series champion Byrne
(593 points) with two rounds
remaining, with Linfoot 26 points
behind Haslam in third.
O'Halloran's title chances are
all but over after the Australian
was taken out by Peter Hickman
on the first lap of race two. He
now sits fifth in the standings at
529 points, six points behind
Haslam's teammate James El-
lison in fourth.
It was an average weekend for
American James Rispoli (Anvil
TAG Yamaha) with a DNF in race
one and a non-start in race two,
and John Hopkins (ePayMe
Yamaha) took a ninth in race one
and a DNF in race two. CN
