IN THE WIND P26 BONNEVILLE: WORLD RECORDS WILL WAIT T he world's fastest riders and streamliners gathered at the Bonneville Salt Flats for Mike Cook's Bonneville Shootout, September 15-20, 2016, the invi- tational speed week dedicated to the best of the best on two wheels seeking to break world records. Three streamliner teams—De- nis Manning's BUB 7, Mike Aka- tiff's ACK Attack and the Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner—were all poised to break the 400 mph barrier this week, but so far, the only thing broken is the Triumph Streamliner. The much-famed Triumph ma- chine, piloted by Guy Martin, re- portedly suffered a crash on the salt on Sunday, September 18, while being towed up to speed. "Setting off smoothly, Guy was making good power in mile one when the Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner lost traction on a damp section of the salt surface, causing the rear of the machine to step out of line and the streamliner to go down on the course," read a statement from Triumph. Martin was unin- jured in the crash. Despite the promoters' best efforts, the salt conditions left a lot to be desired, much to every- one's disappointment. "A lot of work has gone into this event," commented Rocky Rob- inson, rider for the Akatiff team at the start of the event. "The salt is thin and loose in some places, hard and bitchin in others." The ACK Attack completed one "slow practice run" on the salt but found the conditions to be too poor for a proper effort. The BUB 7 team, with driver Valerie Thompson, opted not to make any runs, and are instead focusing their efforts on return- ing to Bonneville in October with Mike Cook's Shootout team. As for the Triumph effort, it sounds like they have their share of repairs to perform before they will be heading back to salt. CN Guy Martin and the Triumph were among the few to make attempts at Mike Cook's Bonneville Shootout 2016, but it didn't end well. MONSTER ENERGY CUP ANIMATED TRACK MAP T he Motocross of Nations in Italy is just around the corner (this weekend to be exact) but we're already feeling the buzz of supercross in the air. That might be because Feld Entertainment has already revealed the animated track for next month's Monster Energy Cup. The race will be again held at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, October 15.
