And in the 450cc (MX1) class,
Monster Energy Kawasaki's Eli
Tomac wanted to keep the ball
rolling as he headed into his
break. Tomac won both motos
in North Carolina a week prior to
the Glen Helen finale, and this
weekend's GP was to be his last
outdoor of the year. After Glen
Helen, Tomac would earn some
good time off, do some testing,
and be ready for the Monster
Energy Cup in six weeks' time.
All that being said, the spec-
tator turnout of the GP still paled
in comparison to the MX Na-
tional, but it was a significantly
better turnout than we can ever
remember it being for the GP.
The fans showed up, and they
were looking for an American to
take home the trophy.

Monster Energy Kawasaki's
Eli Tomac struggled a bit on
qualifying day at the MXGP of
USA. He suffered a terrible
start, during which he somehow
accidentally upshifted twice
instead of just once, and then
struggled to move to the front,
eventually settling for sixth
place in the shorter-than-normal
Max Nagl (12) got good starts
all weekend in the MXGP
class. Here, he leads the field
down to Glen Helen's first turn
"Talladega" in moto one.
