Texan Garrett Gerloff woke on
Sunday with one objective: finish
at least second behind Y.E.S./
Graves/Yamaha teammate JD
Beach. Beach's impressive run
of form, where he'd taken six
consecutive wins, including the
race-one victory on Saturday to
move to within nine points of the
elusive title lead, meant he had
the momentum going into the fi-
nal race, but in reality he needed
a miracle to take the title.
The M4 SportbikeTrackGear.com
Suzuki of Frenchman Valentin
Debise didn't have the pace to
stay with the two flying Yamahas,
and Beach had no alternative
than to pin it to win it and hope
for some luck to take a back-to-
back title. In the end, despite
winning race two, Beach gra-
ciously ceded defeat in 2016 to
Gerloff who took his first major
title since beginning his road-
racing career.
"I saw myself with a number-
one plate when I got my first
road race bike at 12-years-old
and to finally get there and do
what I always knew I could do
feels amazing," said 2016 Mo-
toAmerica Supersport Cham-
pion, Gerloff. "I think I rediscov-
ered my love for motorcycles a
bit this year. I just needed a bit of
time to grow up a little bit—I love
racing and I love riding my bike.
"I had my head get in the way
a few times this season, espe-
cially towards the end, and I was
definitely a head case out there
The 2016 Supersport title was a
dream come true for the young
Texan Garrett Gerloff.
