ROAD RACE
MOTOAMERICA AMA/FIM NORTH AMERICAN ROAD RACING CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 9 / SEPTEMBER 11, 2016
NEW JERSEY MOTORSPORTS PARK / MILLVILLE, NEW JERSEY
P60
arm pump issues in race one,
he charged his way up the order
to get the best of Jake Gagne's
Broaster Chicken/Roadrace
Factory Yamaha Superbike and
Superstock machine of Yama-
lube/Westby Racing Yamaha's
Matthew Schultz. In race two
he held onto the rear of Hayes'
factory Yamaha for the first half
ing the final win of the season.
Fong's white and green ZX-10R
was one of the top 15 in race
one and the only in the top 10
of race two, with veteran Geoff
May on the Turbo Turtle Racing
Kawasaki sneaking into the race
two points in 11th.
For Fong it was an emphatic
return to form. Suffering early
afternoon temperatures helping
his charge to the win. "In this
temperature I feel more comfort-
able," said Elias. "I didn't have
the same grip in the first race,
and the warmer weather gave me
more confidence. In this (race
two), I can arrive to the front ear-
lier than race one and fight with
Roger, and it was a good way to
finish the championship."
Elias's season, stellar as it has
been, was tinged with a touch
of regret when the Spaniard re-
flected on the rain-lashed round
three at the same venue, where
twice he didn't finish and saw a
healthy early championship lead
disappear. It was a round from
which he would never recover.
"Thirty-five points to Cameron
is too far," he said of the margin
between himself and Beaubier
in the final standings. "The rain
race we have here earlier in the
season was a difficult moment
because I lose 47 points in one
day and I think then, 'this will be
the key of the championship.'
And finally, is like this."
The Superstock 1000 class
was a green day for Kawasaki
in what has been a relatively
disappointing campaign for the
new ZX-10R. Bobby Fong (Latus
Motors Racing) did what has
long been expected of him and
romped home to a convincing
double victory, as he replicated
Elias's round one form by tak-
Josh Herrin (2) and Claudio
Corti (71) resumed their
hostilities with Herrin coming
out on top in race two.
