VOL. 53 ISSUE 36 SEPTEMBER 13, 2016 P49
tested the Vet MXdN for the first
time, helping his British team
edge out the Americans to land
on the overall podium.
The American contingent
was comprised of Dowd, Todd
De Hoop, Emig and Dubach.
It marked Emig's first time at
the event as a member of the
Husqvarna team, and he raced
(wrestled with) a twin-shock
four-stroke, which wasn't exactly
familiar territory for former Su-
percross champ. He struggled
with arm pump as did Grant
Langston who struggled to tame
his KX500, and heavy rains only
made matters worse for the rid-
ers.
"Farleigh Castle was fun and
entertaining," Langston com-
mented. "Conditions were
tough. As much as I had a blast,
I was no use to team South Af-
rica. I went DQ, DNF and DNS."
Fortunately the weekend was
more about the spirit of classic
motocross rather than competi-
tion, and fans were thrilled to
see their former heroes in action
on the machines of their eras.
Nicoll piloted an '89 Honda
CR250 which he found and
restored earlier this year in
Southern California before ship-
ping it to England for the event.
The overwhelming reception he
received from his countrymen
was well worth the effort.
"It was absolutely full of
people," Nicoll said. "The at-
mosphere was incredible. The
reception I got was mind-blowing
and reminded me of how much
support I used to have. After be-
ing out of it for so long, you don't
realize what it means to the fans,
even after all this time."
