HASLAM'S STARS IN BSB SHOWDOWN
L
eon Haslam claimed
his first triple victory in
the MCE Insurance British
Superbike Championship at
Oulton Park, September 10-
11, to emerge ahead of Shane
"Shakey" Byrne in the stand-
ings, with just three points
separating the arch rivals
ahead of the opening round
of the Showdown at Doning-
ton Park next weekend.
After a JG Speedfit Kawasaki
1-2-3 (Haslam, James Ellison
and Peter Hickman) in Satur-
day's opening race of the week-
end, the JG Speedfit Kawasaki
team was ready to fight for their
positions in the Showdown, with
the two races Sunday decid-
ing the final three Title Fighter
places.
Haslam again won a thrill-
ing race one that saw his JG
Speedfit Kawasaki teammate
take second and Dan Linfoot
(Honda Racing) take third. There
was more drama for the Tyco
BMW team, as Michael Laverty
crashed out of the race on the
final lap, putting him closer to
the danger zone with one race
remaining.
The final race of the
weekend decided the final
top six, and after a crash
that brought out the safety
car, Haslam again came
away with the win just ahead
of Luke Mossey (Quattro
Plant Teccare Kawasaki) and
Tommy Bridewell (Bennetts
Suzuki).
Bridewell missed the cut
for the Showdown. Laverty
took fourth but narrowly missed
out for Tyco BMW. Byrne fin-
ished in fifth.
The six Title Fighters—Leon
Haslam, Shane Byrne, Jason
O'Halloran, James Ellison, Dan
Linfoot and Luke Mossey—now
look ahead to the opening round
of the Showdown next weekend
at Donington Park. CN
WILSON, PEICK, TICKLE:
WHERE WILL THEY GO?
T
here are a few notable motocross/supercross
racers still without contracts for 2017, and chief
among them is former 250cc National Champion
Dean Wilson.
With the Red Bull KTM team signing Trey Canard
for 2017 (though it has not been officially an-
nounced yet), Wilson will be leaving the team, and since he spent most of the last two seasons with the
team on the sidelines with injuries, it's been tough for him to find a factory-level team willing to give him
a shot next year.
But Wilson is not the only top guy currently unsigned. Rumor has it that Weston Peick has an offer
on the table from JGR, but that he hasn't actually signed it yet, and with the RCH Suzuki team becom-
ing the official factory Suzuki team, the rumor has it that they may be adding a third spot. It's possible
Peick is considering that—as he has had success on a privateer Suzuki in the past and with RCH as a
fill-in rider, as well. RCH looks to bring Broc Tickle back, very possibly re-sign Jake Weimer, and then
have one more spot that could go to Peick, Wilson, or somebody else entirely. Steve Cox
Many are
wondering,
including Dean
Wilson himself,
where he'll end
up in 2017.
Leon Haslam turned the hat trick at the
British Superbike in Oulton Park.
