VOL. 53 ISSUE 36 SEPTEMBER 13, 2016 P25 Strang. "We are after points. The track was good, the fans were great, and the weather ended up being perfect so overall it was a good day." SRT/KTM/Kenda Tires' Steward Baylor Jr. placed just off the podium in fourth in one of his best races this season. Baylor began the day outside the top 10, but worked his way through the pack even as he began to experience brake issues on the last two laps. Coastal Racing/Rockstar/ Husqvarna's Ryan Sipes rode a consistent race for fifth overall, with N-Fab/AmPro Yamaha's Grant Baylor overcoming all obstacles to finish sixth overall after rounding the first lap in 13th place. Coastal Racing/Husqvarna/ MSR's Layne Michael grabbed the $100 Hot Cams XC2 Pro Lites Holeshot Award, but Trail Jesters Racing's Ben Kelly would steal the lead position away until N-Fab/AmPro Ya- maha's Josh Toth took over. Toth continued to charge hard when he began to feel pressure from Michael on the last lap, but ended up holding it all together to emerge victorious. It was Toth's career-first XC2 Pro Lites win. Michael saw the checkered flag just nine seconds after Toth, and Beta USA/Fly Racing/ Kenda Tires-backed Nick Davis got on the podium in third. Kelly and Coastal Racing/Husqvarna/ MSR's Craig Delong rounded out the top five. "It's awesome to pull my first win at what I consider my home race," said Toth. "All my friends and family came out and it was great to have them cheering me on around the track. I pumped up in the beginning, but I was able to loosen up and move through the pack. Once I made it in the lead I just kept my head down and stayed focused, and I'm just excited to be standing here." With 23rd overall Alex Tea- garden was awarded the $125 American Kargo Top Amateur Award. Christopher Venditti and Zach Nolan followed in second and third for the amateur overall podium in the Pro Race. The "morning race" po- dium consisted of FLY Rac- ing/Maxxis/Seat Concepts/ Yamaha's Becca Sheets who also took home the WXC class win. FMF/KTM Factory Rac- ing's Kacy Martinez and Super Senior A (45+) class winner Phil Smith rounded out the top three overall. Obermeyer/MCS Rac- ing Suzuki/Kenda/Fly Racing's Mackenzie Tricker claimed third place in the WXC division. Hunter Riemer continued his dominance in the Super Mini Sr. (14-15) class and extended his points lead by adding another overall win to his resume dur- ing the 8 a.m. youth race. Kevin Messina made his first podium appearance of the season with second, and Randall Ervin placed third overall. CN XC1 Pro 1. Kailub Russell (KTM) 2. Josh Strang (Hus) 3. Thad DuVall (Hus) 4.
