CN III VOICES L E T T E R S T O T H E E D I T O R "Isn't JC [Johnny Campbell] a performance upgrade?" "Harley And The Davidsons" Regarding the comments on Voices, (Cycle News issue #35, September 7) by Dar- ren Bolten about Harley and the Davidsons, you know, it's great to see attention paid to the history of motorcycles on television, though it's skewed toward Harley-Davidson. There were many brands compet- ing for market share before the depression wiped all of them out. Those brands, too, deserve positive recognition for their contribution to motorcycle history along with H-D. Now that Indian is back in the game via Polaris, America's motor- cycle history is coming back alive. And with Indian racing at the Santa Rosa Mile, one of the great "old" names in the motorcycle industry is back to take it's place in history. Joe Kopp former number one will be at the controls of the FTR 750 Scout at the Santa Rosa Mile, so you may want to buy your tickets now and witness history in the making. Also, while you're at it, take a look at the "Indian Wrecking Crew" documentary for a dif- ferent look at the racing history of motorcycles back in the day. And Darren, add this to your movie library; I'm sure you'll learn a few things about racing history in the era right after WWII. A side note about the docu- mentary, Joe Kopp is riding Bill Tuman's 1948 "Big Base" Scout during the reenactment footage. It's ironic that Joe was in the IWC documentary and now is making history again by racing the new FTR 750 Indian Scout on the Santa Rosa Mile. John Holman Dani Pedrosa Great win by DP26. I wonder what conspiracy theories VR46 will come up with now!? Donna Ablett Finally a dry race and the top bikes and riders are at the front. Good on Pedrosa. Jim Clausen MotoAmerica NJ Final MotoAmerica has had great races this year. Hopefully Honda, Kawasaki and Ducati see fit to come back. Tim Layne It isn't over till the math says so. You knew it was unlikely for something to put Cameron Beaubier out of it, but two positions for Josh Hayes would have changed everything. Great racing this year. Hope- fully more riders and manufac- turers will show up next year. Robert Schlegel V2R Africa Twin A pretty amazing performance for an "ADV bike." Tosh Konya Isn't JC [Johnny Campbell] a performance upgrade? Brian Hudnell Honda needs to remake the XR650R with a sixth gear and electric start, and then make it street legal. I'll be in line to buy one. Dave Kellogg Letters to the editor can be sent to voices@cyclenews.com. Published letters do not necessarily reflect the position of Cycle News.
