FLAT TRACK AMA PRO FLAT TRACK SERIES ROUND 13 / SEPTEMBER 4, 2016 ILLINOIS STATE FAIRGROUNDS / SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS P70 always had bad luck or some- thing." With just a few laps remaining the seasons points race took an- other turn as points leader Jared Mees dropped back in this pack and eventually coasted to a stop in turn four with a rare engine failure. With two laps to go, Robinson was able to slip into fourth. "The biggest thing is that we switched bikes for the main event. We were kind of shooting in the dark," said Robinson. "We didn't know what we had. We figured that we were kind of close, but we were struggling with the 'A' bike all day. We took a gamble and it was kind of like, 'well we can't do any worse.' It worked better, so it paid off. It took five to get shuffled back a little bit more. The pace really drops on the last five laps. I was able to match their pace. "I looked back and saw that we had put a gap on everybody else. I thought the worst that I can get is third," said Texter. "I tried to do what I could and might have forced it a little on the last lap and lost a little bit of time. Overall, third place, I'll take it, but there are definitely two more spots on the box that I would like to get to eventually." Texter was able to match his best Grand National finish ever. "To get a podium at any Grand National is tough, but to do it at Springfield is special," said Tex- ter. "For so long I have said that I could do better at this place. I've Doug Lawrence (Glidden Rac- ing/Dryer Motorsports), Brad Baker (Harley-Davidson Motor Company/Vance & Hines) and surprisingly defending Grand National Champion Jared Mees (Las Vegas Harley-Davidson/ Rogers Racing/SDI Racing). Texter was under constant pressure, but only surrendered third once, as Baker was able to get by on lap eight. "I had a drafting game with Brad for a little bit. My Kawasaki had some legs on it today," said Texter. "As soon as someone would pass me I felt confident that I could get right back by them. I didn't see anybody else behind me, but they are always there. Springfield is a drafting game; I honestly was expecting Point's leader Jared Mees' day didn't end the way he wanted it. He still has the lead but that could change.
