IN THE WIND P46 BOU CLAIMS 10 TH TRIALS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP R epsol Honda's Toni Bou secured his 10th FIM Trials World Championship when he topped the charts of the first day of competi- tion at the final round of the championship in Chiampo, Italy, September 2-3. He mathematically sealed the deal on Saturday, then followed that up with another victory on Sunday. "Today is a special day," Bou said after Saturday's victory. "When you win a cham- pionship it is something great. It has been a very special season, with some back prob- lems at the beginning of the year. I was able to keep gradually improving until it was almost my best season. Finally this race has been a perfect one and I've clinched the title. I wish to thank all of those who have helped me to achieve it— the entire team, my family and friends. This is a really special moment and I couldn't dream of anything better. Now I'm going to enjoy the moment and then think about the trial tomorrow, then next season and how I can improve things." Bou now has a total of 20 world championships: 10 in- doors and 10 outdoors. The Montesa Cota 4RT rider dominated the first day's action, topping second place Adam Raga by 43 points. "It was a very complicated day, because I wasn't concen- trating so much," Bou admitted after it was all over Sunday. "Near the start, I made a mis- take that was very hard to over- come. We were getting back into the rhythm, but I scored an- other fault, but then I improved on the second and third laps. I'm very pleased to add another victory—we have finished off a great season and I want to thank all the team for the work that they have done." Raga (TRS) again finished second on the day, though much closer to Bou (14 points back), and also locked up sec- ond in the championship. Third in the championship went to Bou's Repsol Honda teammate Takahisa Fujinami. CN Toni Bou celebrates clinching his 10th FIM Trials World Championship in Italy.
