VOL. 53 ISSUE 35 SEPTEMBER 17, 2016 P77
T
he Charlotte Motor
Speedway complex has
been the venue for many
epic sporting encounters,
but what took place at their
dirt track over the Septem-
ber 2-3 weekend in 2016 will
surely rank right up there with
the best of them. Two World
Champions were crowned but
more importantly for the patri-
otic American crowd, Cooper
Webb and Eli Tomac took the
overall honors after battling
their way past their MXGP
counterparts in motos that,
while not packed with overtak-
ing, were filled with passionate
intensity.
In previous years, the
U.S. GPs have largely been
a failure due to the fact that
American riders scarcely
competed in the event, which,
in turn, meant fans decided
not to attend either. However,
Charlotte bucked that trend
with a solid group of AMA Pros
that really spiced up the racing
and gave the watching fans a
reason to bust out their red,
white and blue with pride.
Not that the event needed
spicing up, really, as the whole
build up to this was one of
intrigue, political arm-wrestling
and many logistical chal-
lenges that were all success-
win the wars
