BYRNE, HASLAM SHARE CADWELL WINS
S
hane Byrne (Be Wiser Duca-
ti) and Leon Haslam (JG
Speedfit Kawasaki) took a win
apiece at the British Superbike
round at Cadwell Park, Septem-
ber 3-4, with Honda Racing's
Jason O'Halloran taking third on
both occasions.
The famous British venue that
includes the spectacular Moun-
tain jump again threw up some
tremendous racing as Byrne,
Haslam and O'Halloran swapped
paint around the extremely nar-
row venue. Byrne and Haslam
pulled clear in the late stages of
race one, with the Ducati rider
slicing underneath the Kawasaki
on the final lap to take the race
victory.
"I didn't really have a master
plan to be honest," Byrne said.
"About six laps from the end I
got a neutral going into the final
corner; I had been watching
Leon, but it caused me to go
really wide and that let Jason
get ahead of me. He was riding
really well and I thought 'this
wasn't part of the game plan,'
but I got back in front of him.
I knew if I hadn't passed Leon
by the Mountain it was going to
be really tricky. Leon was smart
in the race, but I followed him
and at the end I wanted to put a
spanner in the works and I did
just that."
Haslam got his revenge in
race two, pulling clear to take a
comfortable win from Byrne and
O'Halloran.
"We knew the bike had the
pace and that we would be
strong here. After race one
we knew we would have to
do something different in the
second one and we managed it
the best we could and the plan
worked perfectly."
Americans James Rispoli
(Anvil Hire TAG Yamaha) and
John Hopkins (ePayMe Yamaha)
finished with 17-17 and 14-15
results, respectively. CN
