ENDUROCROSS AMA ENDUROCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 1 / AUGUST 27, 2016 INFINITE ENERGY ARENA / DULUTH, GEORGIA P64 Shelby Turner made the long trip from Canada pay off to win the Women's main event on her KTM. She led from start to finish. Rachel Gutish finished second on her RPM KTM and Mor- gan Tanke finished third on her Beta. Ohio's Quinn Wentzel took the win in the amateur class over Christo- pher Venditti and Jojo Bowden. Wentzel is a top trials rider that is also showing some success in tougher off-road events. In the Vet class, Wayne Dickert took his first-ever main event win after sev- eral podium finishes in recent years. David Stirm and Craig Thompson rounded out the podium. The TrialsCross class continues to be a crowd favorite in EnduroCross. Christopher Venditti ended up tak- ing the class win over David Ige. There has been a shift back to four- strokes for many of the top riders. Cody Webb won his 2014 and 2015 championships on a Beta 300 and KTM 300 two-stroke, respectively, but started racing a KTM 250 four- stroke during the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship that ran from December through March. He com- pared the two bikes and felt the new KTM 250 was the best choice. Beta's Max Gerston also switched back to a 350 four-stroke after competing on a 300 two-stroke last season. Taddy Blazusiak has also competed on both two-stroke and four-stroke ma- chines over the years but is currently racing a 250 four-stroke. Colton Haaker chose a 350 four-stroke, the same machine he used in 2015. The series will pack eight races over the next 12 weeks with round two making a first-ever visit to Sioux Falls, South Dakota next weekend (Sep- tember 3). All eight rounds of the 2016 AMA En- duroCross series will air on the CBS Sports Network for the second con- secutive year. For CBS Sports Net- work information, please visit www. cbssportsnetwork.com. Briefly... Webb (1), Blazusiak (111) and Haaker (10) lead the way as they battle for podium positions.
