WORLD'S FASTEST WHEELIE!
H
olland's Egbert van Popta has broken
the record for the fastest wheelie over
one kilometer (0.65 mile) at the Straight-
liners Motorcycle Wheelie World Cham-
pionship, held at the Elvington Airfield
in Yorkshire, England, over the 27-28
weekend.
Van Popta set the new mark at a stagger-

last year's victor, Liverpool's Gary Rothwell,
who stopped the speed traps at 206.049

well represented, with Minneapolis native
Cecil Bubba Myers completing the podium
in third with a 197 mph pass. CN
SERT SEALS 2016 EWC
T
he Suzuki Endurance Rac-
ing Team (SERT) with riders
Vincent Philippe, Anthony Del-
halle and Etienne Masson won
what was an incredible 15th
Endurance World Champion-
ship after taking second behind
GMT94 Yamaha at the Oscher-
sleben 8 Hours in Germany,
August 27-28.
SERT and GMT94 battled
right to the end of the race,
with only 21 seconds separating
them at the end of a demanding
encounter that saw mechani-
cal retirements from three of
the main title protagonists in
Honda FCC, Yamaha Austria
Racing Team (YART), and SRC
Kawasaki. Team Aprilia Motors
was leading on points coming
into the final round, eight clear
of YART, but could only finish
11th in the race and third in the
championship after a crash and
overheating engine dropped
them back through the field.
SERT's win in the champion-
ship comes at the expense of
GMT94 with the two French
teams separated by just a single
point, 88 to 87. Team 3Art
Yam'Avenue with riders Louis
Bulle, Alex Plancassagne and
Lukas Trautmann took the Su-
perstock win and the title. CN
