IN THE WIND P48 NELSON RECOVERING FROM UNADILLA FALL T roy Lee Designs/Lucas Oil/ Red Bull KTM's Jessy Nelson is still recovering from the crash that he suffered in the second 250MX moto last weekend at Unadilla. Shortly after the race, Nelson updated his fans via his Instagram account: "In the second Moto at Unadilla, I had a crash in a tricky turn, ultimately ending with a red flag for the race. I went down pretty hard of a direct result of the bike hitting me from behind. I am currently at a hospital in Cooperstown, NY where we are waiting for some swelling to go down in my back before doing surgery. At this time I have limited feeling from my waist down. The hope is that after the swelling goes down, I will get some more feeling back. Thank you all for your support, kind thoughts and prayers. I will keep you posted in the next few days!" Nelson did, in fact, have sur- gery and according to Road 2 Re- covery, "…we're happy to report that there was no further damage and the surgery went well and ac- cording to plan. It is still too early to confidently say the extent of Jessy's injuries. Being that this is a critical time for the Nelson family we respect their privacy and ask that you do as well. We can only hope for the best and keep him and his family in our thoughts and prayers. Jessy and the Nelson family would like to thank every- one who have donated, passed along kind words, and keep them in their prayers." Road 2 Recovery has set up a fund to help with medical cost. CN PETERS PUMPED UP L ast week we reported that American Kyle Peters was headed to Australia to fill in for the National Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team at the last two rounds of the 2016 Australian MX Nationals, and he delivered quite nicely for the team in his first race. Competing in the MX1 class, Peters came away with second overall at the Echo Valley track in Toowoomba, August 21. Peters was second quickest in qualifying and won the Super Pole. Peters came out swinging in the first moto, where he took the holeshot and ran off with the win. After a bad start in the second moto, Pe- ters caught up to second place, but surrendered a position on the last lap for third. His 1-3 was good enough for second overall. "Everything worked really, re- ally good all day," Peters said in a team release. "It started off great with qualifying and the Super Pole win, then I was able to holeshot the first moto and ride my own race. The second moto was a little tough as I didn't get as good a start, but I had a lot of fun bat- tling with the two front-runners. "My goal was to come out and win races, so I'm happy to have done that in my first event with the National Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team. Now our focus turns to Coolum this weekend and I feel like it will be another strong round for us—the bike, team and everything has been great since arriving in Australia." Dean Ferris, on a CDR Yama- ha, won the race with a 2-1, which moved him a little closer to points leader Kirk Gibbs (KTM). Ferris trails Gibbs by just six points with one round left. CN Jessy Nelson underwent surgery after suffering a spinal injury at the Unadilla National MX.
