MEES STARS AT NEW YORK HALF-MILE
G
rand National Flat Track rac-
ing returned to the state of
New York for the first time since
2008 when the stars of AMA
Pro Racing came to the Rolling
Wheels Raceway Park for the
first time.
The high-banked, 5/8-mile,
oval quickly became a chal-
lenge as the unique surface
developed a large and very slick
groove. Fortunately the only wall
was on the front straight as the
long straightaways coupled with
tight turns resulted in many rid-
ers running out of racetrack and
sliding off the course.
When the 18-rider Harley-
Davidson GNC1 presented
by Vance & Hines main event
blasted off it was championship
leader Jared Mees (Las Vegas
Harley-Davidson/Rogers Rac-
ing/SDI Racing) in front, but the
race was quickly red flagged
when Brandon Robinson
crashed in the first turn.
The Kennedy Racing/Arm-
bruster Racing-backed Robin-
son was forced to his back-up
bike, but was able to make the
restart.
On the second attempt,
Briggsauto.com/Martin Truck-
ing's Jeffrey Carver got the
holeshot and led the first lap,
