s lightning flashed in the
distant, the Harley-Da-
vidson GNC1 presented
by Vance & Hines 18-rider main
event blasted off at the Black
Hills Speedway. In what could
arguably be the best race of
the year, title contenders Bryan
Smith and Jared Mees battled
for 25 laps, including a five-lap
dash to the finish due to a red
flag. When the smoke cleared it
was Kawasaki-mounted Cros-
ley Brands/T&T Construction's
Smith capturing the Sturgis Half-
Mile win.
"I was a little better into
three and off of four than he

checkered flag is after four,"
