MOTOCROSS
LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 10 / AUGUST 13, 2016
UNADILLA, NEW YORK / UNADILLA MX
P70
250MX
With six motos left in
Cooper Webb's 250cc
career, he came into
Unadilla with a 51-point
lead over his teammate
and defending champ
Jeremy Martin. But Martin
dropped out of the series
after the previous round,
so in reality, Webb's
lead was 53 points over
former points leader
Joey Savatgy. If Savatgy
wanted any chance of
winning the 2016 250MX
National Championship,
he could not afford to let
Webb beat him at all at
Unadilla—or any moto for
the rest of the season for
that matter—but Webb
had something to say
about that.
In moto one, Savatgy's
teammate, rookie Austin
Forkner, snatched the
holeshot over his team-
mates Savatgy and Adam
Cianciarulo, then came
Troy Lee Designs/Red
Bull KTM's Mitch Old-
enburg, Webb's team-
mate Alex Martin, and
then Webb. Martin got
by Oldenburg right away,
and Webb followed suit before
making a pass stick on Martin
for fourth a lap later when Martin
got hung up in a rutted corner.
Webb quickly narrowed the
gap to the top three, as Forkner
continued to lead Savatgy and
Cianciarulo. Webb got Ciancia-
rulo in "Screw U" when Cian-
ciarulo went wide, and just as
Webb began working on Sa-
vatgy, less than 10 minutes into
the race, the red flag flew for
privateer Coty Schock.
The racers all headed back
to the start line, where they
would make their gate picks by
virtue of where they were on the
track prior to the red flag flying,
and the clock was reset to 30
minutes (plus two laps) in the
incredibly humid, sweltering con-
ditions. It seemed to be good
news for Martin, though, as he
reportedly had a flat front tire.
His team managed to change his
