IN THE WIND P44 HERFOSS DOMINANT IN ASBK F ormer AMA Supermoto Champion Troy Herfoss (Crankt Protien Honda Racing) took a dominant clean sweep at the penultimate round of the Australian Superbike Champion- ship, held at Queensland's Mor- gan Park Raceway on August 7. Herfoss was unstoppable at the tight and twisty venue, tak- ing pole position and both race victories over championship rival Wayne Maxwell (Yamaha Racing Team), who took 2-2 finishes and now sits just seven points clear in the standings with one round to go and 50 points to play for at Winton in Victoria on October 2. "Every lap on the track today I felt so good, and the Pirelli tires were fantastic out there," said Herfoss. "I keep saying it, but the team has worked so hard on this bike, and even though it's older it really is just so nice to ride. "Now I know we're going to Winton with a really good chance of winning, so I definite- ly needed these extra points this weekend and the hard work has certainly paid off." For Maxwell it was damage limitation, and the former ASBK champion knows he has a lot of pressure going into the final round. "Finishing second a fair way back in each race was not ideal," said Maxwell. "The team will have a test at Winton prior to the [final] round which should help us get a good setup. I'm really looking forward to the last round, that's for sure." CN PETERS GOING DOWN UNDER K yle Peters, who spent much of the year on a Ride360-backed Honda in AMA Supercross and Pro Motocross, will be heading to Australia to fill in on the National Pump Monster Energy Factory Kawasaki Team. Recently one of the team's riders, Jake Moss, officially resigned from the team and his brother, Matt, has apparently left as well, though nothing has been officially announced about Matt's status with the team. Peters will step in for the team at the final two rounds of the Australian National MX Series. Peters' first race will be on August 21 at Toowoomba in Queensland. After missing the last two rounds of the championship, Jake Moss is currently 12th in the MX2 Championship and Matt fifth in the MX1 class. Peters will compete in the MX1 division. CN On a mission: Herfoss was on fire in Queensland and now has the momentum heading into the final round at Winton. American Kyle Peters will race the final two rounds of the Australian National MX aboard a factory-backed Kawasaki.
