CN III VOICES L E T T E R S T O T H E E D I T O R "[Saddleback is] sorely missed to this day but [I'm] so much better for having been a part of it all." CBR600RR I just stumbled across Rennie Scaysbrook's article about the CBR600RR from last Decem- ber. CLICK HERE At the end of the article you mentioned that a European industry figure said that bikes like this would soon be a thing of the past. Looks like they were right, I recently read that Honda is discontinu- ing the CBR600RR. I just can't believe it! Your article was great and summed up the CBR very well. I recently picked up a 2013 that was a brand new leftover. I am 38 and have had a fair number of bikes over the years (R6, SV650, ST1300, Ural, dirt bikes etc.) and I love this thing! It is just a great motorcycle, so fun to ride. I really don't know why they aren't more popular. The handling of it is probably my favorite aspect of the bike. It's delightful! Take care and keep up the good work! Paul Wizner Rider Safety Is it my mistake or are we go- ing a bit backward in MX rider safety? Ryan Dungey takes a tumble and breaks his C-6 vertebra. Pourcel takes a tumble and breaks his C-6. Was either of these riders wearing their neck brace? Since the recent spate of injuries and the decline of the use of the neck braces by a larger and larger portion of the MX-riding ranks, neck injuries appear to be on the rise. If they were not wearing their protec- tive braces, why did they stop? We get one neck fellas, let's keep it healthy. Thanks. Wally Tunison Archives: Saddleback Park Most sacred of places. I re- member missing the first turn (almost) my first time there rac- ing 80s—my Dad thought I did it on purpose and did not know I could do that flat-track thing. I met Bruce Bunch not long before his untimely demise at Saddleback. I watched my hero, Wardy, and O'Show go wild for the win. Todd Camp- bell's first Pro race—led O'Mara until he apparently got bored with it. [Saddlback is] sorely missed to this day but [I'm] so much better for having been a part of it all. Lance Gorton Magoo clearing the plateau (Suicide Mountain) on a Maico 490 was pretty nuts to watch. Badass track for badass bikes like the Open-class 500cc two- strokes that the factory teams showed up with. The good ol' days. Carlsbad was killer, too. Jeff And Holly Coakley Melandri To Ducati You could see the change coming for a different Ducati rider for 2017. Chaz has proven with results, Davide' has not. Although moments of brilliance and talent have been shown by Giugliano, his overall perfor- mance has been hit and miss. His passion is there, just not the results. Another MotoGP regular, Bradl, alongside Nicky Hayden next year; I hope it's a good sign for Honda in WorldSBK. Melandri coming back, not on an Aprilia, should make it a bit more exciting for 2017. Van der Mark to Yamaha, didn't see that, but it could get Yamaha up front where they thought Guintoli would take them. 2016 was a disaster for Guin- toli, especially after his per- formances on the Aprilia. And there's still more to come be- fore this season ends, whether it's race results, or team/bike/ rider changes. John A. Stockman Letters to the editor can be sent to voices@cyclenews.com.
