VOL. 53 ISSUE 31 AUGUST 9, 2016 P25 DUNGEY, MUSQUIN AND ANDERSON CONFIRMED FOR SMX RIDERS' CUP A t the MXGP of Switzerland KTM Motorsport Director Pit Beirer joined Youthstream President Giuseppe Luongo and FIMCMS Director Tony Skillington to officially an- nounce riders that have been chosen to represent KTM and Husqvarna at the Mon- ster Energy SMX Riders' and Manufacturers' Cup. The event, which will take place on Saturday October 8 in Gelsen- kirchen, Germany, is unique in pitting the manufacturers against each other (sort of like an "MXoM"), and KTM and Husky have pulled out all the stops in selecting their world class all-star teams. In the orange corner, Factory KTM rider Marvin Musquin will team up with MX2 sensation Jeffrey Herlings and reigning Supercross Champion Ryan Dungey. On the Husqvarna side, Americans Jason Ander- son and Zach Osborne will team up with MXGP star Max Nagl. "I think with two teams like this, we will have a great perfor- mance from our side," com- mented Beirer. "With this event, Youthstream will lift our sport to another level, and we are going there on the highest level, to compete and not just to be there." "I believe it will be the great- est event in the world and I have to really thank KTM because these teams will make the dif- ference." Luongo added. "My dream was to have an event like the Motocross of Nations but for the manufacturers. In Assen, the other manufacturers will an- nounce their teams and believe me, they will be strong, so here we will have seven manufactur- ers who will have very strong teams, and to win will mean something big." Mr. Skillington wrapped up the press conference by sharing his excitement, "As a true fan and enthusiast I think this is a brilliant event for our sport and I think anybody with an interest in motocross will view this as a very unique opportunity to see the best riders of the world, from both sides of the Atlantic, race each other. That alone should inspire people to come and support the event." KTM and Husqvarna's star- studded lineups add to that of Honda, which includes current MXGP championship leader Tim Gajser and factory rid- ers Gautier Paulin and Evgeny Bobryshev.
