GROEMM WINS HMDR SHOTGUN AMA
EAST HARE SCRAMBLES
T
he High Mountain Dirt Rid-
ers hosted round five of the
AMA SRT East Hare Scrambles
Series just outside Catawissa,
Pennsylvania, July 30-31, where
Jesse Groemm dominated the
competitive field. The race was
also a part of the ECEA Cham-
pionship Series.
Saturday saw 170 youth riders
braving the rainy conditions,
while Sunday cleared up for
the over 300 adults who lined
up to take on what was left of
the nine-mile course. Some of
those who made up the 13-rider
AA class were Kyle McDonal,
"Wild" Wally Palmer, Thorn Dev-
lin and KTM rider Jesse Gro-
emm. Devlin was forced to ride
a borrowed motorcycle after his
bike blew up the day before,
and Groemm was lucky just to
be there—his truck had broken
down on the way to the race
and he was luckily rescued by a
passing fellow racer. He barely
made it to the start line before
the green flag dropped.
ECEA favorite Billy Schoen-
berg nabbed the holeshot
ahead of McDonal and Gro-
emm, but after the first lap,
Groemm had moved his KTM to
the front and Devlin had control
of second place. Palmer was
third and McDonal was holding
down fourth. Schoenberg had
dropped back to fifth.
Groemm quickly opened
up about a minute lead over
McDonal, who had overtaken
Palmer for second, and man-
aged to maintain that gap for the
rest of the four-lap race. The HK
Truck Center/Bromley-backed
KTM rider took the checkered
flag just over a minute ahead of
McDonal.
About four minutes back in
third was Devlin, who had devel-
oped clutch problems, followed
by Palmer, who missed the
podium by about 40 seconds.
Honda rider Hunter Bush
rounded out the top-five over-
all about four minutes behind
Palmer.
The top A-Class rider was Ya-
maha-mounted Shawn Jackson
who topped the 250 A class.
Right behind him finished Open
A winner Landon Wolfe. CN
Jesse Groemm took top honors at
the AMA SRT East Hare Scrambles in
Catawissa, Pennsylvania.
