MOTOCROSS FIM MOTOCROSS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 13 / JULY 24, 2016 LOKET MX / LOKET, CZECH REPUBLIC P68 as he controlled the first half of the second moto, but a mistake by the Slovenian allowed Nagl to slip by and take over the lead, and his first overall win of the season. In the MX2 class, it was any- thing but business as usual. The utterly dominant Red Bull KTM star Jeffrey Herlings, who came into Loket with a 169-point lead, was absent from the race after having sustained a broken collar- bone during the off-season. The Dutch rider still retains a triple- digit lead in the championship, but rumors of injury complica- tions have many speculating that he could miss more rounds. In his absence, it was Monster Energy Kawaski Racing's Dylan Ferrandis who helped himself to a double victory. Team Suzuki World MX2's Jeremy Seewer and Rockstar Energy Husqvar- na's Max Anstie battled it out for the podium, with Seewer top- ping the young Brit for runner-up honors. MXGP Antonio Cairoli once mentioned that it seemed like he'd been rac- ing the Czech MXGP at Loket for the past 50 years, and while the Italian champion certainly doesn't have much affection for this track, many people do, as it brings some old-school variation to the world championship calendar. In fact it was Cairoli himself who continued the old-school theme by bringing back his trusty 350cc steed, which served the Red Bull KTM Fac- tory rider so well during his title- winning reign just a couple years ago. Since his switch to the 450 machine last year, he really hasn't had much success (partly due to injury) so it was thought that the change back was a final throw of the dice in a year that is slowly slipping through his fingers. After the previous round in Mantova, he was 92 points behind the rookie Tim Gajser and was also consistently losing the individual battles on the track against his rivals. Now, he really is behind the eight ball after 7-8 moto results that have seen him slip to 109 points back with just 10 motos left in the season. In fact he is more in danger of losing second place in the championship as both Max Nagl and Romain Febvre are closing in fast after their podium efforts on the slick Czech track. For Nagl, it ended up being a great weekend as he won both motos for his first overall of 2016, hold- ing off Tim Gajser for what must have been a hugely satisfying result for the German who hasn't quite been able to replicate his early 2015 form. "Getting two race wins for my first overall victory this season is just great," Nagl said. "It's so good for the team and a great confidence booster for me, as well. I want to enjoy this moment and this victory and I'm looking forward to the next GP in Lom- mel." Although Gajser wasn't able to add to his seven overall wins, the Slovenian was still able to extend his lead in the championship, in what is his rookie campaign on the big bikes. In fact it was only a small mistake near the end of moto two that saw his eighth overall win slip out of his grasp, but he can still look back on Lo- ket as a success as he closes in on back-to-back MX2 and MXGP crowns. It'd certainly be some
