VOL. 53 ISSUE 29 JULY 26, 2016 P25
Byrne looked to be on for an-
other double win at a circuit he's
enjoyed tremendous success
at but was ruled out of conten-
tion early with gearbox issues,
eventually leading to his retire-
ment. That left Laverty alone at
the head of a chasing pack that
included Honda Racing's Jason
O'Halloran, Mossey, Bennetts
Suzuki's Tommy Bridewell,
Byrne's Be Wiser Ducati team-
mate Glen Irwin and JG Kawa-
saki teamsters Leon Haslam and
James Ellison.
O'Halloran eventually forced
his way clear after a paint-swap-
ping exchange with Haslam to
take second behind race-winner
Laverty, leading home first-time
podium finisher Irwin in third.
For American James Rispoli, it
was a weekend to forget on the
Anvil Hire TAG Yamaha, with a
retirement in race one followed
by a non-start in race two.
"We were lucky today in race
two and Shakey's misfortune
was our gain, but I have had my
fair share of that too this year so
when Lady Luck shines on you,
you have to take it!" said Laverty.
"I still had to work really hard for
that win and we had focused on
the long game this weekend and
it paid off as I saved the tire and
that was what we needed."
The championship sees
Byrne still comfortably on top
even after his race-two DNF on
181 points over Haslam (166),
O'Halloran (146) and Laverty at
135.
In the support classes, Taylor
Mackenzie (Buildbase BMW)
took the Superstock 1000 win,
Andy Reid (Quattro Plant Cool
Kawasaki) took both Supersport
wins while South Africa's Jordan
Weaving took his first British
race win in the Superstock 600
class. CN
