50 Years Ago July 21, 1966
The Castle Rock TT National was our lead story 50 years ago. It's where
"Ascot riders met head on with the Northwest aces…" No one could top Eddie
Mulder, who was the quickest qualifier, the winner of his heat race, and the
wire-to-wire victor in the final… We featured race coverage from Lodi Cycle
Bowl, where Ray Huff won the Expert Final on his BSA. He also finished
second to Roger Goldthwaithe in the 250 Expert Final… We featured Jack
McNairy, Bill Ershig and Red McKeen in our

40 Years Ago July 20, 1976
The U.S. 125cc Motocross Grand Prix was our cover story 40 years ago. The
race was held at Mid-Ohio Moto Park, where Marty Smith came away with the
overall victory after winning both motos over Bob Hannah and Billy Grossi.
Rick Burgett went 1-1 in the 250cc Support class… We reported that KJ, the
desert-racing, tank-riding dog of teammate/pilot John McCowen, had been
found after running away at a desert race. Unfortunately, KJ had been hit by a
car on a nearby freeway and was killed.
20 Years Ago July 17, 1996
We featured the first look of the 1997 Honda CBR1100 XX… Jeff Emig was
finding his stride in the AMA 250 National Motocross Series after scoring another
win at Red Bud. Steve Lamson won the second moto of the 125 National and
came away with the overall victory. James Dobb won the first moto ahead of
Chad Pederson and Lamson… Luca Cadalora was the big winner at the German
Grand Prix… Ryan Hughes won the Open and 250 Pro motos at Mammoth
Mountain Motocross, while Mike Craig took the win in the 125 Pro class.

30 Years Ago July 23, 1986
We got our trials fix when we tested the Beta TR33 trials bike, and it was
pictured on the cover being ridden by National Trials Champion Scott Head…
It was a hot and humid day in Axton, Virginia, where David Bailey outlasted
the field to win the Lake Sugartree National MX over Rick Johnson. George
Holland won the 125cc class… The AMA Camel Pro Road Racing Series visited
Laguna Seca, where Mike Baldwin took the win.
Wayne Rainey topped the Superbike class…
Geoff Ballard won the ISDE Two-Day Qualifier in
Livingston, Tennessee.
