ROAD RACE ROUND 8 / JULY 10, 2016 LAGUNA SECA / MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA P86 MOTOAMERICA AMA/FIM NORTH AMERICAN ROAD RACING CHAMPIONSHIP KTM RC CUP The only race for the KTM RC Cup was chaos as usual, with Ashton Yates coming out the surprise victor at the line after Anthony Mazziotto III ran onto the dirt at the final corner while lead- ing the race. Mazziotto went on to cross the line in what he thought was a disgusted third place. Yates, Brandon Paasch and Mazziotto went at each other like they had all season long at Laguna and it was anyone's guess as to who would take the win. For a while it looked to be Paasch until he spun up exit- ing turn 10, then Mazziotto ran wide at turn 11, with a drag race ensuing between Paasch and Yates for the win that went to the Georgian by just 0.46 seconds. "On that last lap, third wasn't where I wanted to be but I made it happen," Yates said. "Brandon (Paasch) and Anthony (Mazzi- otto) made a mistake and I was able to clean it up and take the win. The rest of the race I was hoping to be able to pull away, but they were behind me the whole time. I'm happy to get this win. It feels good." In the title chase, Paasch is still in the driver's seat with 266 to Mazziotto 247. Yates is assured third in the title with 210 points. CN KTM RC CUP 1. Ashton Yates (KTM) 2. Brandon Paasch (KTM) 3. Anthony Mazziotto III (KTM) 4. Alejandro Gutierrez (KTM) 5. Josh Serne (KTM) The drag to the line saw Ashton Yates (120) barely eek out an unlikely victory in the RC Cup.
