CHAMPIONSHIP
VOL. 53 ISSUE 27 JULY 12, 2016 P83
SUPERSPORT/SUPERSTOCK 600
Only one race for Supersport/
Superstock 600 was run at
Laguna and in what was an
unusually processional race,
current number-one JD Beach
continued his run of good form
to decimate the field at Laguna
Seca for Y.E.S. Graves Yamaha.
Starting from pole position,
Beach made it five wins in a
row under the California sun,
clearing off to a victory of 6.8
seconds over M4 Suzuki rider
Valentine Debise. Beach's team-
mate and title rival Garrett Gerloff
came home third and lost some
vital ground in his championship
lead, which now stands at 286
versus Beach's 272 with one
round remaining.
"I still have a lot of work to do
to try to overtake Garrett, and
I've got to win both of the next
two races, which is not going to
be easy because Garrett is rid-
ing great," JD said. "I got off to a
really good start today, and I was
able to get away. The start is
something that I've been working
hard to perfect, and I'm making
good progress."
Happy days for JD Beach. The 2016
champion is edging ever closer to
teammate Garrett Gerloff in the
standings.
