best bet was to square him up.
I was able to hang on for the
podium; kind of stressful for my
family. Sorry to do that to them,
especially my dad right now. But
in the end it's more enjoyable
to go down to the last lap, last
corner. And that's not a corner
I love. I've been on the ground
in that corner but I've also got a
podium one other time in the last
corner, so it's kind of a love/hate
relationship with it."
For race two, it was a slightly
different matter.
"The first start the bike was
really good, much better than
race one," Hayden said. "I was
really able to attack and things
were going great, apart from
that start. The light flickered or
something. I got buried, but I
had a really good turn one, and
was able to get in there. I just
made 1:23.8 something, my
best lap of the weekend on race
tires. And it kind of brought that
group back in front of me. I really
thought maybe I could do some-
thing good. But after the red
flag, we don't understand what
happened, but I lost all feeling
and braking and could not brake
at all. Very disappointed.
"The support I got here this
weekend has been incredible,"
Hayden went on to say. "I appre-
ciate it, everybody who came to
support me, support this whole
event. It seems like everybody's
having fun, a lot of energy."
